Community Building

In April 2024 the Board of Trustees announced plans for a new Community Building and a Police Department expansion, and hired an architect. The Community Building is planned as a central hub for community activities, with multiple meeting rooms and versatile spaces. Mayor Kandy Damron said: “These developments represent a significant step forward for Talala. By enhancing our community building and expanding our police department, we are reinforcing our commitment to creating a safe and vibrant environment for all our residents.”

The Town hosted a Community Building / Community Room grand opening on Saturday, December 6, 2025, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at 102 West Watova Street — ribbon cutting, tours, a tree lighting at 6:00 p.m., and a visit from Santa. The event was hosted by the Board of Trustees, the Wellness Committee, and the Talala Police Department.

The Town has not published a later “opened on” date beyond that December 6, 2025 grand opening. The room features a 32 × 48 open hall, 12-foot ceilings, a full kitchen, four bathrooms, projector and AV, and outdoor space onto the park. For rentals, see Community Room.

Archive / Expansion

Renderings of the building expansion and the new Town Hall entry were drawn by Chief R. Scott Eaton.

It’s not always everyone’s happy place — but it certainly makes Talala stand out now. From March 2008 until 2024, this corner of Watova looked much the same. Sometimes it isn’t only a change of season that a town needs. A change in leadership — people willing to plan, build, and stay with the work — is what sets a place apart.
